ADVANCED REACTIVE SYSTEM SCREENING TOOL (ARSST)
The ARSST is a low thermal inertia calorimeter used to obtain critical upset process design data i.e., Pressure relieving.
The low phi-factor (or thermal inertia) allows the heat and gas generation rates to be measured and directly applied to the process scale, which leads to appropriately designed emergency relief systems (ERS).
The ARSST measures the temperature and pressure of the system
• Required size of Emergency Relief System (ERS)
• Adiabatic temperature and pressure rise rates (dT/dt, dP/dt)
• Total adiabatic temperature rise (ΔTad)
• Heat of reaction
• Heat of mixing
• Onset temperature
• Time-to-maximum-rate (TMR)
• SADT (Self Accelerating Decomposition Temperature) assuming simple kinetics.
